Affordable Housing Investors Council

Help Shape the Future of AHIC’s Emerging Leaders Program

Join the Inaugural Emerging Leaders Advisory Group

AHIC launched its Emerging Leaders Program in 2019 to cultivate future leaders in affordable housing investment. After a strong start, the program was paused due to the pandemic—but it’s coming back in 2025, and we want it to reflect the needs, interests, and realities of today’s next-generation professionals.

To ensure the new iteration of the program is meaningful and relevant, AHIC is creating a new Emerging Leaders Advisory Group—a group of Emerging Leaders who will help design the program, not participate in it (at least not yet!).

Applications are due May 15, 2025.

What is the Advisory Group?

This group will not be “the program” itself—it’s the team designing it. Advisory Group members will help AHIC develop the structure, topics, format, and activities of the Emerging Leaders Program. Your input will directly shape the offerings that AHIC rolls out to the broader industry.

As a member of the Advisory Group, you will:

  • Recommend the structure of the new program—whether virtual or in-person, training-based, network-focused, or a mix.

  • Identify meaningful content, speakers, and formats for future events.

  • Help remove barriers to participation by advising on accessibility and format.

  • Serve as ambassadors and advocates for the program.

Time Commitment

The group will meet virtually under the guidance of AHIC leaders--Abhisek Mitra, AHIC's Program Commmittee Co-Chair, and Desiree Francis, AHIC's Immediate Past President. The meeting cadence and time commitment will be shaped by the group itself, based on what needs to get done—but we expect a modest, flexible commitment that fits into your regular work schedule.

Who Should Apply?

We’re seeking 10 individuals who:

  • Work for an AHIC investor-member firm

  • Are categorized as Investor Representatives (i.e., not in a sales or fundraising role)

  • Have seven or fewer years of experience in LIHTC equity investing

The Advisory Group will include a mix of voices across organization types, geographies, and job functions. To ensure continuity, the inaugural Advisory Group will include five members serving one-year terms and five serving two-year terms. After the first year, all future members will serve two-year terms, with five rotating off each year to make room for five new members.

How to Apply

Submit your application by May 15 using this form, which will ask you to share:

  • A bit about your background

  • Why you’re interested in this role

  • The perspective or experience you’d bring

  • Your vision for what AHIC’s Emerging Leaders Program could be

Still Have Questions?

We get it—this is a new initiative, and part of your role will be helping shape it from the ground up. If you’re excited about contributing your voice and ideas to something that will serve your peers and your own future, we hope you’ll apply. You are also welcome to reach out to AHIC's Executive Director, Kim Duty, at kduty@ahic.org to learn more.
